Good news for Save The Blean

Canterbury City Council Adopts Local Plan – C12 Site Removed

Canterbury City Council voted on 18 March to adopt the Local Plan for the district. Significantly, the plan does not include the C12 site – University of Kent land at Blean previously earmarked for 2,000 homes.

The removal of C12 from the Local Plan is an important milestone for Save the Blean and reflects the concerns raised by local residents, environmental groups, and stakeholders throughout the consultation process.

The fight continues

While this is positive news, the campaign is far from over. The University of Kent has stated its intention to sell the land to a property developer and submit a planning application outside the Local Plan framework.

Save the Blean will continue to scrutinise any development proposals affecting this land. The site supports rare and protected species, provides vital green space for local communities, and plays an important role in the region’s ecological network.

What happens next

We expect a planning application to be submitted in the coming months. In the meantime, we will mobilise supporters to object to this plan.

If you care about protecting Blean’s ancient woodland, please stay connected with the campaign. We still need your voices and your support!
