As you may already know, Canterbury City Council is proposing some changes to the draft
Local Plan, which include removing policy C12 for the large development of 2,000 houses
between Blean and Tyler Hill. This is of course the policy which Save The Blean has been
opposing, and we will be delighted if this change is confirmed. CCC is now consulting on the
change.
WE NEED YOUR HELP…
PLEASE RESPOND TO THE CONSULTATION BY TUES 21 OCTOBER 2025!
By email
The easiest way is to send your comments by email to consultations@canterbury.gov.uk.
Please make sure you include your name and address in your reply, otherwise it will not be
considered. In the subject line put Policy C12, and in the main body of the email write that
you are responding to the following question: Do you have any comments on the proposed
deletion of Land north of the University of Kent (Policy C12)? We hope that you will agree
with the deletion of the policy C12 from the local plan. Your reply can be as short as 1-2
sentences. You could add that you agree with the technical reasons given for the change –
the impact on the road network, the destruction of the ancient woodland, and the cost-
effectiveness of demolishing Blean primary school. You could also add that the same
objections would apply to any possible future proposal for a large development in that
location. If you wish, you can also thank the councillors for having listened to our concerns.
By post
You can also write a letter to: Consultations Team, Canterbury City Council, 14 Rose Lane,
Canterbury, CT1 2UR with the comments above.
By completing a survey
To respond online, go to https://haveyoursay.canterbury.gov.uk/draft-canterbury-district-local-plan-focused-consultation-2025/surveys/draft-canterbury-district-local-plan-focused-consultation-2025.
In section 3 of the questionnaire, click on ‘Canterbury area’, which will take you to section 4.
The question there is: Do you have any comments on the proposed deletion of Land north
of the University of Kent (Policy C12)? Please see suggestions above for possible comments.
Please do respond by 21 October 2025! If this change is confirmed, it will be a huge
achievement. We don’t know whether the University might try to sell the land again in the
future, but we can reduce the chances of that if we respond to the consultation to make it
clear that there is still huge opposition to any development in that location.
If you have any questions or help responding to the consultation, please do not hesitate to
contact us on info@savetheblean.org.
