Swale Councillor Working to Make Blean Woods an AONB

Local Swale Councillor Terry Thompson is campaigning to reconnect the Blean Ancient Woodland and have it designated part of the Kent Downs National Landscape (National Landscapes were previously known as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

Working with local MPs, Councillors, wildlife groups and landowners, he has been developing
a proposal to reconnect the Ancient Woodland from Kings Wood and Perry Wood, North-Eastward to the Blean Woodland Nature Reserve and East Blean at Hoath, to connect essential wildlife habitats and re-create a landscape-scale Forest in East Kent. He also has the support of Sir John Lawton, author of the 2010 government review of England’s protected areas “Making Space for Nature”.

This exciting project includes a “Green” land bridge across the A2, creating “stepping stones” to connect habitats and developing marginal habitats to support the biodiversity of the forest. He has been speaking to Canterbury, Ashford and Swale Councils, and we at Save The Blean are very supportive of the project.
